The Sopranos: A Don Never Wears Shorts

James Gandolfini, who played Tony Soprano, received a mysterious late-night call from an unfamiliar number. In Michael Imperioli's book "Woke Up This Morning," he recalls Gandolfini's account of the incident. The caller compliments Gandolfini's acting but issues a stern piece of advice: "A Don never wears shorts." With that, the caller abruptly hangs up. In the Season 4 premiere of The Sopranos, fellow mafia boss Carmine Lupertazzi Sr. imparts this advice to Tony Soprano. "John said he went to a cookout at your house. A don doesn’t wear shorts." Sounds like a mob guy called Gandolfini and the show added the tidbit to be even more authentic.
